Qualifications for Board of Trustees

I think that recent events have shown me that we need more voices on the board of people whose only agenda is to promote and protect the university, whether it is through fiscal policies or community responsibility. I believe that being an “everyman/woman” and the logical common sense that comes with that is maybe the most important attribute. I do not agree with the recent decisions by the board of trustees, the buckling to media pressures, the disregard for PA sunshine laws, and the spectacle the board created in its handling of the Sandusky scandal. However, I realize that this scandal and all the mistakes that were made are but a portion of the large issues facing the future of Penn State, and do not want this one issue to be the only reason to run for a seat.

I served two terms on the board of trustees of Centre Community Hospital (now Mt Nittany Medical Center). After one year, I was elected to and served 5 years as an officer of the board (secretary). Also served on numerous committees, especially committees devoted to the quality and delivery of patient care to the community. Involved in expansion projects following the initial relocation of the hospital from Bellefonte to State College.
